Mexico – Cantina Las Perras

20120303-224229

we thought it a bordello at first

but the name is actually for the seven female dogs

panting and drooling over our naked toes

on the cool blue tiles of the inner patio

where we drifted over Margarita icebergs

singing with the whales

all afternoon

uno mas por favor

under painted stone arches

perros bailando

crude but Ohhhh

so much better than the poker playing canines

my grandmother proudly hung on her parlor wall

without a trace of irony

I thought of you today

before dawn

as I was torn from sleep again

by the barking, crowing soundtrack to the Mexican dream

Sabes que te extrano?

you are far enough away to wake in peace

tienes suerte

but you do not see these torrid colours

around every corner

and you don’t have me

missing you

any more

cola entre mis piernas

sweating

howling

Caught Fish 4 – Dog Park…

Dog Park by clinock. 11″x 14″. Graphite, Conte and Charcoal, on paper.

I once had a dog, my Malika – she was killed by a car. I was so attached to this animal that I swore I would never repeat this agony of loss. I am now a cat person and although I have lost many cats to coyotes, accidents and mysterious circumstances I still feel the loss of Malika the most.

This drawing was done in my local dog park – it is my tribute to Malika.
