Even as the center holds,
various preconceptions
of mirrored identity,
(sensible face,
pedestrian limbs,
imagined organs),
fragment and
peel away,
shedding more than was known.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Enchanted by fragmentation
I’m reluctant to leave
this sweet and bitter place
where honeyed magics
wing through space,
pollinating thought
and flesh, and dreams.
Waiting becomes me.
I paint the walls with lightning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fragmented by enchantment,
a cellular accommodation
reforms my reformation
in a dance of Buddha love,
an attitude of slow turning
across the wavering tiles,
where I shape and shape again
the slow dissolve
of the waiting room I was.

Uneasy lies the crown
upon so small a head
as he emerges by touch,
by earth and fire,
by skulls and owl magic
to begin the dance.
While ‘renovating’ last year I found a long forgotten plastic tub containing about 10 kilos of clay. Amazingly it was still soft so I began working some small pinch pots that quickly became faces. Immediately I understood they were 3D versions of my painted, 2D ‘Inner Portraits’ series. Soon I had 15 small clay heads, fired and stained with acrylics.
I made wooden stands for the heads but felt they needed more so I created clay and mixed media ‘bodies’ to contain the heads. The first of these was Owl King, shown at top of post. I will share more in future posts.

It has been a long winter.
Renovations have not come easily
but they have come and I’m sure
will continue to come
until I am bones in the beaks of crows.
My muse rings the changes too.
It’s a game we play, it’s called hide and seek.
There are blindfolds on both sides
and the snow has been deep
and renovations have been difficult.
But don’t hear me wrong,
there is always laughter, wonder and light,
the sparkle of space and love
as I sweep the corners clean
and imagine everything new again.

Hello everyone. The changes are obvious I think. I hope you have no problems with navigation. I am working on a separate ‘portfolio / gallery’ site just for my art. I will post the link when complete.
Renovations, actual, virtual or metaphorical are ongoing.
It seems that everything
is trying to tell me
It’s renovation time again.
The dragon needs new clothes,
renewed ignition and a volcano full
of revivification.
The rat and lion share this
unholy
predicament.
It’s October. Renovation time again.
Changes wind in the air
with squirrels and drifting leaves
and winter winks
from shadowed corners
and misty horizons.
Changes arrive like a parade
of jesters and ghosts.
I must follow.
And so, my friends,
I leave you once more
for a temporary yet purposeful hiatus…
Until next time,
A la prochaine,
Hasta Luego,
Art Rat
