It was only last year one of my sons turned me on to Ira Glass and This American Life on PBS. When I tell this to people they politely ask which rock I’ve been living under.
Since then I’ve been addicted to the Ira Glass PBS podcasts so imagine my delight when I discovered this video.
If you are not a writer you can exchange his word “story” for whichever acts of art you call home. I believe that everything he shares in this video can be applied to everyone’s creative process.
It’s fast and true for me, how about you?
Great John but after 40 years I’m still fighting….even after doing the work. I find each new work is a challenge and my “taste” says you can do better.
I do like his approach.

I’m happy this spoke to you Robert. I share that voice you speak of, from muse or ego, that pushes us to improve, break down walls, begin again, expand limitations and never be satisfied…

Someday, I might get out of that phase. Thanks for sharing! Excellent advice.

I had to laugh at the “living under a rock” comment. Ira Glass is a steady and regular “friend” I have enjoyed for years. He has inspired other podcasts, too. If you are interested, search “Armchair Expert” podcast (Dax Shepard Episode 55) and you’ll enjoy an informal dialogue between the two. I thought it was great! I’m glad you found him. 🙂

It’s strange how it goes sometimes with discoveries of every ilk. They are always there, shining like beacons but somehow one doesn’t see them until what?…one sees them? I will check out ‘Armchair Expert’. Thanks Debra
