because I was a leaf
riding a stream of moments
to the sea
resistance was futile
time had run out
except for one day
enough for paint to dry
before the flight
one more was possible
just one more

Rather sad but haunting! I like the way it is framed within a frame. I tend to think you enjoyed that “just one more” while your muse was still with you.

Actually Jo Nell, the only sadness really was leaving Mexico where I had spent a large part of last winter painting this ‘faz’ series, hence the reference in the poem to the flight. I had one day to pack and to paint one more piece. This one is it. It is the last of my 2015 paintings from San Miguel.

Really love this one, John. And that feeling of “just one more” thing to express, to create, to get out of you–glad you were swept away to produce one more.
